Meeting Update 10.29.09

At our last meeting we discussed Cans Across America, and when we would like to stand out and collect canned goods in front of Wal-Mart and County Market. We decided that we will be collecting cans at Wal-Mart on the 7th (next Saturday) and at County Market on Sunday the 8th. No official times have been chosen, as we will discuss them at our meeting next week. Our trip to Lincoln Elementary School here in Macomb will be here before you know it! We performed a rough tally of those that are interested in going, and we have 13+ people that are interested, which is great! The topics we will be conducting for the kids will be 'Dressing in Winter', 'Ice/Freezing Rain', 'Frostbite/Wind Chill', and 'Blizzards/Snow Drifts'. If you are interested in helping us, please let us know. We have no scheduled date just yet, we needed to come up with this information to tell the school so they knew what to expect. This Sunday we will be having another bowling outing at Digger's College City Bowl. We will be bowling roughly around 4:30pm. Please try to bring singles dollar bills or paper money that is not very large in amount, it makes it easier to pay with. If you commit to something with the club, please try to stay to that commitment. If you are unsure whether you will be able to make an event let us know so we can compensate for your absence. If you know that you are not going to make it but said you would, please let us know and try to see if you can get someone to take your place. Thank you! We have gotten the shipments of Yankee Candles! If you have not already gotten your candles, go to Dr. Herman's office soon, where they are being held.

Meeting Update 9.15.09

Our flag football team (The Sundogs) won our first game on Monday, with a score of 33-21! Great job guys! Disaster Coordinator of the McDonough County American Red Cross, William Wetzel, came and introduced himself to the club. He is wanting to work with us to warn others across McDonough County of Disaster Preparedness. It will be a great opportunity to warn others and give something back to the community! For those of you who signed up for the Meteorology focus group meeting on this upcoming Saturday (the 19th), Dr. Herman will send out an email with more information. We will be meeting at Tillman Hall for rides out to Horn Field Campus around 9:45. The radar that was perched on top of Memorial Hall (which was removed a few months ago) is being upgraded down in St. Louis, and soon it will return home! Dr. Herman will give training sessions on how to use it once she works with the radar for a short while. We voted on photos for the calendar this past meeting. The promotions committee will tally up the votes and we will see which photos made the top 20! If you have a slogan or t-shirt design, we will be voting on them next meeting, so please, bring them with you to the meeting if you have a shirt design. Even if it is rather simple, a simple idea was the basis for our last shirts, and look how they turned out! Eric Apel passed out Yankee Candle Fundraiser packets at the meeting. With this fundraiser we will receive 40% of all money made by the club! So please go out and sell to your friends and possibly family members! The deadline for the fundraising is October 9, 2009. If you have any questions contact Eric at 217-341-6565. At the next meeting we will be discussing the AMS conference and getting a count of everyone that would want to go, so if you are interested in going, please come! The Geography Department Research Exhibit will be up and running for tomorrow only, so if you have not yet seen all the cool projects students and faculty have been working on in the department, you should pay a visit! REMEMBER! If you want to be a member of the SWC, please pay your membership dues soon! Dues are $10.
