Dr. Gloria In茅s Orozco Dorado is a Colombian clarinetist who has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Colombia, Mexico, the Netherlands, and Ireland. In 2024, she was awarded First Prize in the International Clarinet Association鈥檚 Research Competition for her project Ritmos de mi Tierra (Rhythms of My Land), and Second Prize in the Orchestral Audition Competition at ClarinetFest庐 in Dublin, Ireland. Focusing on the preservation and dissemination of the cultural and musical heritage of Caloto, Cauca, Colombia, Ritmos de mi Tierra explores a legacy shaped by Indigenous, Afro-Colombian, and Mestizo traditions through archival research, ethnomusicological fieldwork, and artistic collaboration, including the commissioning of new works. The project culminated in a globally distributed album released by SoundSet Recordings in November 2024, enriching the clarinet repertoire and serving as a pedagogical resource that promotes Colombian musical traditions.
Dr. Orozco Dorado has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra, the Northeastern Illinois University Orchestra, and the Chicago Clarinet Ensemble. Her orchestral and chamber music experience includes performances with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra, the Arizona Wind Quintet, and the World Youth Wind Orchestra Project. She is a founding member of Q鈥檌ru Duet and Ensemble, dedicated to the performance and dissemination of Latin American music, with appearances at ClarinetFest庐 in Texas (2025), Ireland (2024), Denver (2023), and Reno (2022). She also co-founded ClarIn茅s Cuarteto de Clarinetes, winners of the 2015 Luis 脕ngel Arango National Competition hosted by the Colombian Republican Bank.
Since 2016, Dr. Orozco Dorado has led Soplan Vientos de Paz (Winds of Peace Are Blowing), a peace-centered social impact project she founded to provide high-quality clarinet education to children and youth in Cauca, Colombia, one of the regions most deeply affected by armed conflict, economic instability, and limited access to educational resources.
She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Clarinet Performance with a minor in Electroacoustic Music and Sound Production from the University of Arizona. She earned two Master of Music degrees in Clarinet Performance and Music Theory & Composition from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, as well as a Master of Arts in Applied Pedagogy (Clarinet) from Northeastern Illinois University. She completed her undergraduate studies with a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Universidad del Cauca in Colombia. Her main clarinet professors include Drs. Jackie Glazier, Eric Mandat, Rose Sperrazza, and Andr茅s Ram铆rez Villarraga. Dr. Orozco Dorado鈥檚 work integrates performance, education, and community engagement, with a strong focus on access to music and intercultural collaboration.
