Wallace, Jane Brown Ex-officio: Alice Robertson, Joan Livingston-Webber The WID committee sponsored a faculty development workshop entitled “What is WID and How do I Teach It?” Alice Robertson and Joan Livingston-Webber led the workshop in September 2006. It was open to both WID and non-WID instructors and covered the following points: A brief review of English 180 goals and assignments An outline of effective ways for students and instructors to use the Writing Center Examples of un-graded, short writing assignments -- enhance students’ learning of course materials -- reduce the time instructors spend on grading papers The creation of short, useful writing assignments for individual participants’ in WID classes The committee reviewed and approved CH 370, Research Methods in Health Sciences; ENG 476, Senior Seminar; NURS 408, Nursing Research; NURS 409, Professional Seminar; REL 312, writing in Religious Studies; A&S 495, LAS Senior Capstone. The committee, also, reviewed the Department of Biological Sciences’ WID courses. As chair of WID, I updated the WID webpage, including a link to “Teaching Writing at аЧПеЮоЯоДЋУНapp Illinois University.” I also updated the list of approved WID courses which includes the date of the last review. Each of these documents can be found as links on the webpage. I also created a master list of аЧПеЮоЯоДЋУНapp WID faculty. As chair of WID, I notified the chairs of departments that have a chronic problem with over enrollment in their WID courses. I received no indication from the chairs that I contacted that they would do anything about it. Over enrollment makes it difficult for WID faculty to properly adhere to WID standards and for students to fully benefit from the course. The WID committee suggests that WID faculty who have no choice but to teach more students than 25 per section should receive some sort of compensation for the extra workload.
