Absent: Joel Gruver, Deb Miretzky, Shane Sanders. Guests: None. The meeting was called to order at 3:33pm. Discussion of proposed course from FCS. Dilger spoke with Dietetics, Fashion Merchandising and Hospitality(DFMH) chair Dr. Mary Mhango before the meeting today and learned DFMH has several WID courses to approve. He suggested Mhango send them up in one batch, and skip todays meeting. The committee reviewed the submitted materials and came up with the following suggestions for DFMH: If several changes are being submitted at once, we would like DFMH to explain how they work together. For example, if students focusing on particular areas will take particular WID courses, please explain that. If courses deleted, please explain that. We would like to see the forms which were filed to change the courses previously. Please answer all questions. Please attach an actual syllabus. Please include writing in the course objectives and explain where it will occur. Please explain how this writing is disciplinary. Add the WID statement. Approval of minutes. Dilger apologized for not sending the minutes earlier. The minutes from the November 13, 2013 meeting were approved with several minor changes. Announcements. Building list of past WID instructors (Dilger). Annette Hamms Faculty Senate student worker will have this list for us around December 5. Unconference Jan 17, 2014. (Dilger). Meeting on Wednesdays at 3:00pm is acceptable for all present. Dilger will check with those absent regarding that time. As we did this Fall, we will schedule second and fourth Wednesdays (but not exam week) and cancel meetings for lack of business. Report on WID instructor survey (Helwig). Magdelyn suggested the survey indicated five areas for faculty development: Helping WID students get the most out of the Writing Center Helping WID students write/revise for and/or submit to the new WID Journal Strategies for encouraging revision Strategies for efficiently and effectively assessing writing Whats going on with ENG 100, 180, and 280 curricular revision? The committee agreed that (a), (c), and (d) were highest priority. Dilger will check with Rabchuk regarding the timing and need for (b). Dilger suggested that rather than a workshop, (e) could be a February web spotlight written by University Relations. Reports from working groups. Overenrollment (Miczo, Dilger).
