New Music Festival Returns to ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Next Week

MACOMB, IL - The ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Illinois University School of Music will present the New Music Festival 2026 with events and performances at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10.
Since 1988, the annual New Music Festival (NMF) at ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app has provided the community the opportunity to hear concerts of recently-composed acoustic and electroacoustic music curated and performed by ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app faculty and guests. In addition to concerts, the NMF features lectures, panel discussions, masterclasses, workshops and other interactions between students, faculty and invited composers that further connect our community to the world of contemporary music.
This year's featured artist is George Hufnagl, who holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Music Composition from ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Illinois University and the University of Iowa, with additional studies in sound design at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
- Event 1 - 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 9 - Game Audio: Sound as Deconstructed Music - George Hufnagl, featured artist
- Event 2 - 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 - Open Rehearsal with George Hufnagl and Student Composers
- Event 3 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10 - ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Student Composers and Performers
All events are free and open to the public.
New Music Festival 2026 is made possible by support from the ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Performing Arts Society and the ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app School of Music. The festival's directors are ÐÇ¿ÕÎÞÏÞ´«Ã½app Composition Faculty Hong-Da Chin and James Romig.
