  • Kim McClure: *Designates student co-author. *Denzler, K., *Rees, G., *Keller, S., Kurt-Hilditch, J., & McClure, K. (Mar 12 - 14, 2026). What is de-escalation anyway? Presented at the American Psychology and Law Society Conference, Reno, Nevada. The COPS De-Escalation Training through Active Learning (DeTal, DOJ 15JCOPS-23-GK-01739-PPSE) Assessment and Research Center is tasked with optimizing de-escalation training. The training itself includes cultural context (Ang et al., 2007), information processing (Evans & Stanovich, 2013), and person-perception under stress (Baror & Bar, 2016). Assessing perceptions of de-escalation was a foundational project. Using a survey strategy, police officers and community members provided their own definitions of de-escalation and then rated the usefulness of de-escalation topics (e.g., person perception) used in DeTal Center curriculum.
  • Robert Hironimus-Wendt (thesis advisor) presented research conducted with MA in Sociology student Ananya Proma at the Midwest Sociological Society meetings in St. Louis, March 27-30, 2026. Proma was unable to attend the meetings. The presentation was titled: 鈥淎 Study on the Impact of Father鈥檚 Presence on Childhood Sexual Abuse (CSA) Experiences and their Mental Health Condition鈥�
